SEINFELD Landmark: New York Health & Racquet Club

Seinfeld, the NBC television comedy show about nothing that ran nine seasons was set in Manhattan. The indoor scenes were filmed in California but the outside footage was shot on location in New York businesses. These Seinfeld landmarks are still being visited by tourists. One of these Seinfeld landmarks is the New York Health & Racquet Club, pictured above. Located at 24 E 13th St., this health club was where George urinated in the showers and shoe salesman Jimmy insisted on speaking in the third person. Seinfeld first aired in May 1990.

"Seinfeld" Soup Man ("Soup Nazi") Reopens Famed Soup Store in Midtown Manhattan

Al Yeganeh, the Original Soup Man, who rose to fame after he was caricatured in an episode of the hit NBC Television Show, "Seinfeld" as the "Soup Nazi," reopened his famous soup store today at 259 West 55th Street near 8th Avenue. Yeganeh, who first opened the store in 1984, closed the shop in 2004. He kept the lease to pursue franchise opportunities and a line of frozen soups (as well as T-shirts) with the Original Soup Man brand.  In "Seinfeld", he was portrayed as a cranky and demanding soup stand cook who yells "No soup for you!" to customers who didn't follow his strict ordering procedure. Yeganeh's infamous rules, aimed at keeping lines moving, are still posted above the counter in 10 languages: "Pick the soup you want. Have your money ready. Move to the extreme left after ordering."

TOM'S RESTAURANT

When I visited the Morningside Heights campus of Columbia University recently, I made an image of a diner nearby called TOM’S RESTAURANT. It is located at Broadway and 112th Street. It became a popular draw for tourists because this restaurant was used for exterior shots of the diner scenes in the popular TV sitcom SEINFELD. The show recently ranked the second biggest earner in TV syndication, 10 years after the last episode aired.
