HUGH JACKMAN is Back on Broadway!

video by HughonBroadway
Hugh Jackman, the movie actor who is probably best known as the manly mutant Wolverine in the "X-Men" movie franchise, returns to Broadway in a rare and intimate concert at the Broadhurst Theatre. The Tony- and Emmy Award-winning actor performs with an 18-piece orchestra, singing his personal selection of his favorite musical numbers, and shares some personal experiences on stage in a show called "Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway." Ben Brantley of the New York Times says that the "impossibly talented Mr. Jackman is glorious" in this limited engagement that runs through January 1. The images above were made after his matinee performance last Sunday as he signed autographs for his fans at the stagedoor of the Broadhurst Theatre at 235 West 44th Street.
Hugh Jackman first performed on Broadway in 2003 when he portrayed the role of Australian songwriter and performer, Peter Allen in the hit musical "The Boy from Oz." For this role, Mr. Jackman won the Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical. He also hosted the Tony Awards in 2003, 2004, and 2005, garnering rave reviews. His hosting of the 2004 Tony Awards earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Performer in a Variety, Musical or Comedy program.

Broadway Marquee: HUGH JACKMAN Back On Broadway

Hugh Jackman's one-man show "Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway" officially opened at the Broadhurst Theatre on November 10 to the best reviews to date of the current Broadway season. The musical return of the multi-talented Tony-winning star is set to run through January 1, 2011. Backed by an 18-piece orchestra, Jackman performs what he calls a personal selection of favorite musical numbers reflecting his varied career, including The Boy From Oz on Broadway, Oklahoma! on the London stage and much more. The star has concentrated on movies and stage drama (A Steady Rain) in recent years, but he returned to his musical roots in acclaimed pre-Broadway concert engagements in San Francisco and Toronto.

The Broadhurst Theatre is located at 235 West 44th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues.

HUGH JACKMAN and DANIEL CRAIG storm the Great White Way in "A STEADY RAIN"

Hugh Jackman at the stagedoor after the first preview performance

Last night, I attended the first preview of the Keith Huff's two-man play, "A Steady Rain" starring HUGH JACKMAN and DANIEL CRAIG at the Schoenfeld Theatre. This new gritty American play tells about two Chicago police officers who are lifelong friends and have differing accounts of a few harrowing days in a poor neighborhood. After a long applause when the curtain rose, the story began as two separate monologues from two familiar characters, a good cop and a bad cop that provide different perspectives in a series of past events, some inspired by real-life cases. Plagued with personal alcohol and racism issues, the narrative by the two cops occasionally merged into present moment dialogue scenes. The story is very emotional and disturbing but quite funny at some points. Both actors were brilliant, although Daniel Craig fumbled through his dialogue. Hugh Jackman was very compelling as Denny, the classic cop gone bad with a dynamic personality.
Directed by John Crowley, "A Steady Rain" is produced on Broadway by Frederick Zollo, Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, Raymond L. Gaspard, Frank Gero, Cheryl Wiesenfeld, Jeffrey Sine, Michael Rose Ltd, The Shubert Organization, Inc. and Robert Cole. Set and costume design are by two-time Tony Award winner Scott Pask, with lighting design by two-time Tony Award nominee Hugh Vanstone and original music and sound design by Mark Bennett.

HUGH JACKMAN and the OSCARS

Last year, Oscar statuettes were displayed in Manhattan's Times Square Studios. I made the images above when I visited the display last year. The golden guy known to the world as the Oscar is the real star of Sunday's 81st Academy Awards which will be hosted by HUGH JACKMAN. First-time Oscar host Mr. Jackman received an Emmy Award in 2005 for hosting the Tony Awards in New York. He also won a Tony Award for his role in the hit Broadway show THE BOY FROM OZ. I took the above photo of Mr. Jackman at the stagedoor of the Imperial Theatre in Times Square after a performance in 2004. According to previous reports, Mr. Jackman will open the ceremony with a musical number staged by "Moulin Rouge" director Baz Luhrmann and Tony-award winning choreographer, Rob Ashford. Hollywood is hoping that this year's awards ceremony will draw more viewers and provide a brief escape from hard economic times. Youtube video from saremac.
