The New York City Central Labor Council organized today's Labor Day Parade & March that kicked off at 10:00 a.m. with a traditional march up Fifth Avenue and 44th Street (ending at 72nd Street). The march featured thousands of proud union card-carrying working men and women, leading dignitaries and elected leaders, spirited marching bands, and patriotic floats. The parade grandstand was located at 69th Street and 5th Avenue. This year's Grand Marshal was Lillian Roberts, Executive Director of District Council 37. Gary La Barbera, President, New York Building & Construction Trades of Greater New York, served as this year's Parade Chairman. Before the parade, the annual Labor Day mass was celebrated by Archbishop Timothy Dolan at St. Patrick's Cathedral at 8:00 a.m.
