Broadway Marquee: LA CAGE AUX FOLLES

The Menier Chocolate Factory's acclaimed revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is now in previews at the LONGACRE THEATRE located at 220 West 48th Street. The revival stars DOUGLAS HODGE (Olivier Award) as Albin, a drag performer with a heart of gold, and KELSEY GRAMMER as his partner Georges. The musical opens on April 18.

Art Collection of MICHAEL CRICHTON

Artworks from the collection of best-selling author and screenwriter, film director and producer, MICHAEL CRICHTON are on public exhibition for the first time in New York at CHRISTIE'S. The display is being presented ahead of the public auction on May 11-12, 2010. The selection of artworks include Jasper Johns' "Flag," one of the most famous icons of 20th century art. Mr. Crichton is renowned for his scientific thrillers such as The Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park, and for creating the television series ER. Crichton is also acknowledged as a leading authority on the American artist Jasper Johns and as an important collector of 20th century art. Also included in the auction are paintings by Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Ed Ruscha and Andy Warhol, as well as sculptures by Jeff Koons. Christie's is located at 20 Rockefeller Plaza #6, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

Rockefeller Center Ice Rink Turns into a ‘Meat and Greet Area” for the National Meatcutting Challenge

Yesterday, the National Meatcutting Competition was held at the Rockefeller Center Iceskating Rink. Jose "Ozkar" Ayora-Miranda, who works at Tyler's Texas Roadhouse placed first in the challenge, taking home a $20,000 prize. Steaks are judged on quality, yield and speed. They have to cut the fastest and waste the least. At yesterday's finals, Mr. Ayora-Miranda cut 50 pounds of beef — two top-butts, two tenderloins and one rib loin — against six other "prime contestants" from Alabama, California, Indiana, Michigan, Rhode Island and Wisconsin. 

TYLER JAMES And THE EXCHANGE Perform At The GAP

TYLER JAMES AND THE EXCHANGE performed yesterday at the GAP in Times Square 42nd Street to celebrate their self-titled debut album release. The band's music is a very unique blend of pop and funk. The group, which is comprised of 5 students, started in a basement in the backyards of New Jersey - Tyler James Bellinger (lead vocals), Jeffrey Melo (guitar), Andrew Hink (keys and vocals), Rodrigo Pichardo (bass) and Rob Tait (drums and vocals).

Tartan Day Parade

The 12th New York National Tartan Day Parade was held today featuring pipe bands, individual pipers and drummers, kilted men, Scottish groups, and Scottie and Westie dogs. The event is a celebration of Scottish history and culture in America. The parade started at 2:00pm stepping off from 45th Street and marching up 6th Avenue ending at 55th Street. The parade is the first to be subject to the new Police Department rule of curtailing the parade route by 25% because of the city's budget deficit.

Art and Candy: ROMERO BRITTO'S ART and DYLAN'S CANDY BAR Interior

The artworks of internationally renowned Brazilian artist, Romero Britto are prominently featured inside Dylan's Candy Bar, the popular candy store founded and owned by Dylan Lauren, the daughter of designer Ralph Lauren. The collaboration with the artist produced a line of products sold at the candy store. Designed by J/Newbold Associates, the store's interior has a giant lollipop candy "tree" centerpiece that projects illuminated colored disks onto the ceiling. The translucent stairs are backlit, and embedded with actual candies. The ceiling changes color and the lighting is very sophisticated. Dylan's Candy Bar is located at 1011 Third Avenue on 60th Street.
