The Philippines Says Thank You, World.

Three months after typhoon Haiyan made landfall in southeast Asia, the Philippines made an effort to send a message of thankfulness throughout the world for the outpouring support, love, concern, and care of various countries. Electronic billboards are being used to display “Thank You” messages in various major cities including New York, Paris, Tokyo, London, and others. The billboard message in Times Square is pictured above.

Screening Premiere of "Leslie Sardiñas: WATCHING YOU", a Video Art Installation in Times Square Billboards

Last night, a public video art installation by Cuban born artist, Leslie Sardiñas called "Watching You" premiered on the American Eagle billboard in Times Square. The video art is a 30-second animation of a pair of eyes looking down onto Times Square. It was created from over 600 drawings made by the artist himself, inspired by the character Cheshire from Alice in Wonderland, whose eyes hypnotize and enchant the viewers. The screening was preceded by a reception at the Times Square Visitor Center, at 1560 Broadway between 46th and 47th Streets as part of the Frieze Art Fair. Drawings by the artist are also on exhibit at the Times Square Visitor Center until May 7, 2012. The exhibit is presented by the Times Square Alliance and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. Viva Leslie!
