This evening, I finally caught a preview performance of the 65 million dollar Broadway musical, "Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark" at the Foxwoods Theatre. Yesterday's matinee and evening performances were cancelled after an actor/stunt double for Spider-Man, Christopher Tierney fell 30 feet off a raised platform into a pit at the stage, and sustained injuries that required hospitalization and surgery at Bellevue Hospital. The musical is directed by Julie Taymor with music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge. The cast is headed by Reeve Carney as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Next to Normal Tony nominee Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane Watson and Broadway veteran Patrick Page as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin. The show, which has been plagued by technical glitches, actor injuries, and delays, is still a "work-in-progress," but the high-tech special effects and aerial scenes made it a unique theatrical experience. During tonight's performance, two of the producers spoke before the show, assuring the audience that safety measures are in place. The show went on smoothly and there were no technical glitches or actors getting injured during the performance. Positive thoughts and prayers for those who were injured including the talented Christopher Tierney who has performed many of this show's aerial stunts.

Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark First Preview

Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark, the most expensive and technically ambitious production in Broadway history completed its first preview performance last night at the Foxwoods Theatre on 42nd Street. It was reported that the show started 26 minutes late, and lasted  for 3 hours and 45 minutes. Broadwayworld.com reports that Message boards and Twitter were abuzz throughout the show, noting that there were 4 technical stops in Act 1, and 1 in Act 2 as well as an elongated intermission (and one nasty heckler). Broadway Marquee: SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark

Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark, the new musical arrives next month on Broadway. Up on the marquee is the gigantic billboard in front of Foxwoods Theatre on 42nd Street. The box office at the newly renamed Foxwoods Theatre opened last month. The new musical will begin previews Nov. 14 at 3 PM with an official opening scheduled for Dec. 21. The box office, located at 213 West 42nd Street, will now be open Monday-Saturday, 10 AM-8 PM.

Maligned by the media, buffeted by financial woes, and stretched thin by the expectations of the world-at-large, Peter now must struggle to navigate the perilous and peculiar demands of being a web-slinging superhero."
