Manhattan Schist Outcropping in Central Park
New York City is the site of ancient earth-shaking and earth-shaping events. The island of Manhattan is built on strong metamorphic rock known as Manhattan Schist. In Central Park, outcrops of Manhattan Schist occur, such as the one shown above. It is also a popular site for visitors to relax and take selfies with the skyline in the background.
