Vintage NYC Subway Train Swing Dance Party 2011

Fans of of nostalgia or vintage subway trains gathered yesterday for the annual Vintage Tea and Swing Dance Party on the 2nd Avenue station's uptown F platform, as well as aboard a vintage subway train. The free event started at noon when the music and dancing started. NYC Swing Dancers performed on the platform. At 12:30, the vintage train from the 1920's arrived, and the dancers and lovers of vintage trains and swing dancing got on the vintage train that headed to Queens. The train u-turned and went back to the East Village where the  non-political Vintage Tea party on the nostalgia train took place.

Nostalgia Train Ride For The Holidays: 1930's Vintage Subway Trains In Service On Sundays

NYC Transit has started this year's "Nostalgia Shoppers' Special Train" service last Sunday. These photos of the 1930s vintage train were taken along the M line last Sunday. The nostalgia trains run every Sunday through December 26. Retired New York City subway cars get plucked out of the NYC Transit Museum and return to service just for the holidays, decked with wreaths and red bows, mixing in with the regular cars for the same price as a routine ride. Nostalgia Train: 1930's Vintage Subway Trains In Service for the Holidays

Subway cars from the 1930s are in service on the V line from 10 AM to 5 PM every Sunday through December 27. The V line runs between Second Avenue and Queens Plaza. These cars are from the collection of the NYC Transit Museum in downtown Brooklyn. The price to ride a vintage subway train is the same as any modern-day train - a $2.25 MetroCard swipe. I happened to see one of the classic trains while waiting for the F train yesterday.
