BROOKLYN WEST INDIAN AMERICAN CARNIVAL

The West Indian American Carnival was held today, Labor Day, in Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn to celebrate Caribbean pride. It is perhaps best known for the vibrant costumes of the marchers and dancers, and these costumes are often works of art depicting aspects of the rich and eclectic history of New York's vibrant West Indian population (including communities hailing from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, Barbados, Belize, St. Kitt's, Martinique, Cuba, etc.). Photos above do not depict the colorful and elaborate costumes since I did not catch the beginning of the parade.
