Hani Shihada's Street Art for Chevy at Herald Square

Chevy, in collaboration with the guerilla marketing company City Eventions is promoting the new 2012 Chevy Sonic through street art. With the help of street artist Hani Shihada, Chevy attmepts to get the car in people's mind...and under their feet. Shihada created a big sidewalk art display incorporating the Chevy Sonic at Herald Square. These images were taken while the Shihada was  finishing the artwork the night before it was unveiled on November 11, 2011.

PANTHEON: A History of NYC Street And Graffiti Art On Display At Chashama

Last week, an exhibition opened at Chashama 20 West 53rd St (across from the Museum of Modern Art) called PANTHEON. The window exhibition focuses on the history of NYC street and graffiti art from the late 1970s and featuring 35 graffiti writers and street artists including Abe Lincoln Jr., Faro, Stikman, Ellis Gallagher, Adam VOID, UFO and many others. The former Donnell Library becomes a repository of visual information on the growing world-wide phenomenon of street art. This exhibition will present an art historical timeline that is a part of New York City’s unique legacy. 

PICASSO in The Met and on the sidewalk on Madison Avenue

An exhibition of 300 works of art by PABLO PICASSO (Spanish, 1881-1973) opened recently at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This landmark exhibition is the first to focus exclusively on works by Picasso in the Museum's collection. It features the Museum's complete holdings of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and ceramics by Picasso—never before seen in their entirety—as well as a selection of the artist's prints. The exhibition covers the full breadth of the artist's multi–sided genius over the course of his long, prolific and influential career. The exhibit runs through August 1.
While photography is not allowed at the Met's exhibition hall, there is a masterpiece of Picasso's "The Dream" worth photographing - the chalk-and-pastel copy by HANI SHIHADA. The artwork is on the sidewalk on Madison Avenue outside the Carlyle Hotel. Mr. Shihada is a Jerusalem-born Palestinian artist who has been using the sidewalk as a canvas for more than 30 years. He has done a portrait of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis on a sidewalk, Caravaggios and Raphaels.

"Sand Painting" by Joe Mangrum

This is New York City installation and multiple medium street artist JOE MANGRUM working on his SAND PAINTING in Union Square Park last Sunday. Using multi-colored sand, he spent 8 to 10 hours to create this mandala form.

Joe Mangrum (Born February 10, 1969) is an installation and multiple-medium artist. He currently resides in New York City. Born and raised in Florissant, Missouri, he later attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1991. His focus of study was on painting and photography, though after art school he began to expand his work into site-specific, environmental and often ephemeral installations. Using a wide spectrum of components, his work often includes organic materials, such as flowers, food and sand, in addition to deconstructed computer parts, auto-parts and a multitude of found and collected objects. His installations often include mandala forms, pyramids, maps, grids and mushroom clouds. (biography notes from wikipedia).
