Madison Avenue Baptist Church is an American Baptist congregation in midtown Manhattan. Not your average Baptist church, it is a diverse community that attempts to be inclusive of all people. The historic church is also known for its ministry of "putting a different face on the church and the gospel - joy and hope, not judgement and shame." The church is led by Rev. Susan Sparks, a former trial lawyer turned standup comedian and Baptist minister. Pictured above is one of its recent signs in front of the church, appropriate for today's income tax return filing deadline. Another message was featured in a recent Huffington Post article - “God wants spiritual fruits, not religious nuts.”
