Filipino-Americans commemorated Philippine Independence Day and celebrated their culture at the annual Philippine Independence Day Parade in midtown Manhattan yesterday. Dancers, marchers, marching bands, musicians and celebrities including Dingdong Dantes, Aljur Abrenica and Iliac Diaz headed down Madison Avenue from 38th to 26th Street during the annual parade. A cultural program was held after the parade. The Philippines declared independence from Spain on June 12, 1898 but the United States did not acknowledge the country's independence until 1946.
