A reception was held last Friday, November 6 for a photography exhibit at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theatre. But my focus was on an equally interesting exhibit by the critically acclaimed artist E. V. DAY, which is comprised of site-specific installation of sculptures of vintage New York City Opera costumes suspended above the Promenade. On display are costumes from Violetta, Lucia – Bloodie Nightie, Tricorns, Codpieces and Dickies, Hats: Magic Flute, Casanova, Turandot, Mimi – Rigor Mortis, The Clown, Manon - Ghost/Angel, Skirt Chaser, Merry Widow, Cinderella: Distressed Peasant/Princess, Butterfly, Carmen, Bustles and Panniers. The vintage costumes are transformed into dramatic stop-motion pieces suspended in fishing line above the Promenade of the theatre. The display will remain in place through the fall and spring seasons.
