ELECTION NIGHT at ROCKEFELLER CENTER'S "ELECTION PLAZA"

Instead of watching the election results on television, I joined the thousands of people gathered at Rockefeller Plaza's "ELECTION PLAZA." There was an electoral map on the Rockefeller Plaza ice skating rink, but the all eyes were on the red (McCAIN) and blue (OBAMA) climbing electoral vote banners going up the side of 30 Rock. It was an exciting night culminating at around 11 PM when OBAMA earned more than 270 electoral votes becoming the first African-American American president. As one African-American woman puts it, "Rosa Parks rode the bus so that Martin Luther King, Jr. could have a dream, Martin Luther King had a dream so that Jesse Jackson could run for president, and Jesse Jackson ran so that Barack Obama could win."
