SPHINX at the TEMPLE OF DENDUR

This is one of the sphinxes at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Temple of Dendur, one of the museum's most popular destinations. Behind the sphinx is the arch, and the temple itself. The Temple of Dendur is an Egyptian temple which was transported in sections to the United States in 1965 as a gift from the government of Egypt. Today, visitors can explore both the inside and the outside of this small yet ornate temple. This priceless temple is believed to be the only extant Egyptian temple on display in the Western Hemisphere.
