Ninth Avenue International Food Festival and Street Fair 2010

The Ninth Avenue International Food Festival and Street Fair in May has become a favorite weekend for New Yorkers, as well as tourists since it began in 1973. As in the years past, from 37th Street to 57th Street, Ninth Avenue closed to cars last weekend and the festival took over. The ethnic diversity of New York City makes this food festival really unique. It celebrates the joys of ethnicity through food and entertainment. This festival is also a fabulous expression of the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, offering an eclectic global smorgasbord of national and regional cuisine. Outside vendors also participate in this festival.

Bergdorf Goodman's newest window display showcases SEX AND THE CITY moments, in advance of the May 27 release of the film SEX AND THE CITY 2. Styled by PATRICIA FIELD, each window depicts the characters that make this beloved New York City fairy tale very popular. Carrie's epic closet, shoes, Manhattan's thrilling streets, camel, and more shoes.

The Philippine Center is currently hosting the BRIAN TENORIO and EMI JORGE's design exhibition, dubbed "Tenorio/Jorge on Fifth Avenue" which runs from April 29 through May 22. The exhibition features 14 gorgeous Philippine-made purses by accessories designer Emi Jorge and 14 exquisite shoe styles by footwear designer Brian Tenorio. 

A graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University and the Asian Institute of Management, Filipino-American Brian Tenorio is currently with the Design Management Program of Pratt Institute in New York, researching on National Design Policy formation frameworks for developing countries. His designs have been featured in art exhibitions in New York and in Manila. His extraordinary ability to merge his artistry with business savvy earned him several awards as a print and graphic designer and as an entrepreneur. He possesses a strong background in corporate communications, publishing and communications design. The multi-disciplinary artist is now based in New York City. 

Emi Jorge obtained a degree in Shoe Technology and Design from the Clothing and Footwear Institute of London. Ms. Jorge's work has been featured in several exhibitions. She fashions wearable art out of wood, stone, metal and shell. Her beautiful designs are modern, and they reflect the duality of her creative mind - disciplined, yet organic. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with preeminent fashion designers, and has been commissioned by Swarovski Crystal to create pieces for the Crystallized Cosmos Exhibition in Hong Kong. She recently launched "Emi Jorge," her eponymous brand.

The Philippine Center is located at 556 Fifth Avenue. The exhibition is open from 9 AM - 5 PM (May 19-21, Wednesday through Friday), and 9 AM - 2 PM (May 22, Saturday). There will be a Gala Night on Friday, May 21 at 6 PM (by invitation only).

America's Most Visited Tourist Destination

It's called the "Crossroads of the World", or "The Great White Way." New York City's famed TIMES SQUARE is the nation's most visited tourist destination, according to a survey conducted by Forbes.com. Times Square is a major commercial intersection in Manhattan, at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue, from 42nd to 47th Streets. The Theatre District includes the "extended Times Square area", consisting of the blocks between 6th and 8th Avenues from east to west, from 40th to 53rd Streets. Times Square was formerly known as Longacre Square. In 1904, Longacre Square was renamed Times Square when the New York Times headquarters moved to the Times Building (now called One Times Square), the site of the annual New Year's Eve ball drop.

BARNEY'S New York Dedicates Window Displays to IMAN

Fashion model, actress and entrepreneur, IMAN will be honored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America with the Fashion Icon Award on June 7 at Lincoln Center. To celebrate the honor, Simon Doonan, creative director of BARNEY'S New York installed a window display tribute to IMAN. The windows feature a Bruce Weber portrait of the fashion icon, quotes about her from artists and style personalities, photographs and collages.
Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, Iman is the daughter of Marian and Mohamed Abdulmajid, a former Somali ambassador to Saudi Arabia. She is a supermodel and a muse for many fashion designers, an occasional actress, and an entrepreneur. She is active in several charities. Married to British musician, David Bowie, Iman and her family reside primarily in Manhattan and London.
